Paratrooper Bag vz.85 – Šimík
ČSLA nylon paratrooper bag model 85 Šimík – complete airborne assembly with carrying straps, magazine pouch and rope with carabiner.
The paratrooper bag model 85, nicknamed Šimík, was designed for parachute jumps and subsequent combat operations. Unlike the older canvas vz.61 bag, it is made from durable synthetic material (nylon) in olive colour, providing water resistance and greater durability in adverse weather.
Main bag (backpack)
Spacious pack for carrying basic equipment. Dimensions approx. 40 × 40 × 30 cm, weight approx. 2.3 kg.
Small field bag (mošna)
Smaller bag with a metal frame, attached to the belt or carrying straps. Regulations required it to be worn on the right side on the belt.
Carrying straps (treky)
Straps for comfortably carrying the entire assembly on the back.
Magazine pouch
Designed for two magazines for the Sa vz.58 submachine gun.
Rope with carabiner
Special rope for attaching the bag to the parachute harness during the jump. After the canopy opens the assembly is released on the rope beneath the paratrooper.
Material
Unlike older canvas versions, vz.85 is made from non-absorbent synthetic material (nylon), increasing durability in adverse weather.
How it is worn
The small bag is worn on the right side on the belt according to regulations. During the jump the entire assembly is secured to the parachute harness and released on the rope beneath the paratrooper after canopy opening.
