ČSLA Sport and Combat Jump Parachute
Parachute PD-47
ČSLA parachute PD-47 – cotton percale canopy 70 m², descent rate 5.5 m/s, static-line deployment.
The sport parachute PD-47 is designed for training and combat jumps from aircraft and balloons. The canopy is square with cut corners, made from cotton percale fabric with an area of 70 m². Descent rate is 5.5 m/s.
Canopy and suspension lines
Sewn with 13 mm tape, reinforced with 25 mm tape around the perimeter. 16 intake pockets around the perimeter. 22 suspension lines in total – lines no. 1 and no. 22 are doubled. Lines made from percale, braided with a core, length 6.5 m. The canopy has 4 drive channels – the largest is at the back of the paratrooper and provides a forward speed of 1.5 m/s.
Harness
Made from hemp, width 44 mm, strength 1,100 kg.
Container
Used to store the canopy in or without the deployment bag. Reinforced with a steel frame. 8 springs for rapid opening. Eyelets at the bottom for storing the canopy without the bag. Deployment was by static line.
Deployment bag
Prolongs canopy filling time and reduces the dynamic shock. Truncated pyramid shape, length 4,120 mm. Red-coloured for easy location in the field.
Pilot chute
Pulls the bag off the canopy. Made from silk, reinforced with springs.
1m connecting cord
Connects the pilot chute to the deployment bag bridle. Made from cotton cord, strength 125 kg.
Static line
Connects the canopy to the static-line loop when packing without the bag. Strength 60 kg.
Deployment line
For forced parachute opening. Made from linen strands, diameter 12–14 mm. A log book is attached for recording jumps. Allows 25 jumps from aircraft and 50 jumps from a balloon.
Deployment line cover
Protects the aircraft skin from damage by the deployment line studs. After the jump the cover slides onto the steel cable. Made from avisant fabric.
Manual release
For opening the parachute during a free-fall jump.
Emergency release
For emergency opening if the deployment line breaks or the aircraft must be evacuated forcibly.
Carry bag
For storing the packed parachute or after a jump.
