History of the knife

The Piloun knife is the predecessor of the BONUS model 85 knife and was manufactured by the predecessor of Aquacentrum, the enterprise Sportklimex. It was used by military and police divers and sport divers of the then Svazarm. The Piloun knife was part of the diving kits SP 20, SP 20D and SP 40. In the kit, two knives were stored in the lid of the crate. The Piloun is also listed in the military regulation Žen-24-6 from 1984.

There are two types of the Piloun knife. The first type has the KDS manufacturer's logo on the blade; the handle is fitted onto the blade and secured with a washer and a cap nut — this variant is rare today as very few pieces have survived. The second type has a pressed-on handle and lacks the washer and cap nut.

The Piloun has a stainless single-edged blade with a doubly curved spine near the point; on the blade spine is a saw. On the cutting edge near the handle are four semicircular sharpened notches. Along the centre of the right side of the blade runs a centimetre scale without numerical markings. The handle of the second type forms a unit with the asymmetric cross guard made of textured black plastic.

The rubber sheath has a spring ring to catch the handle pommel and on the sides there are protrusions for threading textile straps with metal buckles to secure the sheath to the calf of the leg. On the front of the sheath is the image of a pilchard fish and the inscription PILOUN. There are two variants of the rubber sheaths — they differ only in the manufacturer's inscription Sportklimex or Aquacentrum.
