Machete Model 52
Very little information exists about this machete, but it probably served more as a multi-purpose tool than as a weapon. The massive blade with a width of 3.5 mm gradually narrows towards the point to 1 mm. It is lightened by three longitudinal fullers extending approximately to its midpoint. On the blade is the mark of the Czechoslovak lion in an unusual pose — standing on four legs and looking backwards — and below it the inscription MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA.
The beech wood handle scales are attached through the blade tang by three rivets of 4.5 mm diameter, peened over metal washers. Between the first and second rivet is stamped the Czechoslovak army acceptance mark — two crossed swords and the number 52 indicating the year 1952. No sheath is known for the machete. The manufacturer was Čenkovské strojírny, which produced cutting tools.
Very similar to the machete model 52 is another machete from the same manufacturer — both are virtually indistinguishable except for small details. The machete in the first photograph is 10 mm longer, has a slightly longer handle, a 1 mm thinner blade, and a smaller manufacturer's logo. We believe the longer machete is a later production run. If anyone has more information, we would welcome additions.
