BONUS vz.85 Sheaths

Overview of sheath variants for the BONUS vz.85 knife — camouflage, leather and rubber sheath.

Camouflage Sheath

After 1989, the army was supplied with the knife in a camouflage sheath made of plastic and nylon with a snap fastener. On the back, two securing straps for the leg or arm could be attached using hook-and-loop fasteners. The sheath could also be worn using a belt loop. This sheath is rarely seen today and is mostly owned by collectors or stored in military reserve warehouses. The sheath was developed for Operation "Desert Storm". Of interest is the camouflage pattern used in manufacturing the sheath, which is not found anywhere else. In the last photograph you can see the original knife packaging — the sheath with the knife and securing straps was stored in a plastic bag together with the knife maintenance manual.

Leather Sheath

For field trials the knife was supplied in a brown sheath made from natural soft leather with a hook-and-loop fastener, which is now less commonly seen and usually ended up destroyed. The sheath was made from thin leather and the knife wore through it. Among leather sheaths, two variants can be found — dark brown with black rivets and light brown with brown rivets.

Rubber Sheath

The sheath made from rubber-plastic has a stainless steel belt loop on the back secured by four rivets, and top and bottom loops for securing straps to the leg or arm of a diver. There is also a variant with a black metal loop and a variant without a loop. At the top there is a rubber eye for securing the knife. On the front is the manufacturer's name: Aquacentrum. This sheath is the most commonly seen today. The securing straps came in two types — with a metal buckle (which rusted over time) and the more modern type with a plastic fastex buckle.
