Development and Use
Since 1997, deep reconnaissance units have been using the combat knife designated 1-F-97 FALCO. The knife is currently in service with the 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion in Prostějov and is part of the unit's insignia. The knife is patented and soldiers finance its purchase themselves. Falco is made from spring steel 14260. The handle is made from leather rings compressed by a threaded pommel cap. The steel pommel cap has a 4 mm diameter hole for a lanyard.
Description
On the left side of the blade is the Latin inscription "SPEM RETINE" — translated as "KEEP HOPE". On the right side of the blade are the logos of the designer and manufacturer and the serial code D-000-08: D is the production series, 000 is the serial number within the series, 08 is the year of manufacture 2008. The lower part of the blade features a saw for cutting parachute cord, and the upper part has a thumb rest. Between the blade and the handle is a one-sided steel guard. The design was created by Ing. Roman Hippík, and Falco was produced by knifemaker Lubomír Maďarič of Brno.
Sheath
The sheath is made from black natural leather consisting of five layers stitched together and secured with six rivets — one layer of leather is 3 mm thick. In addition to the standard closure, the sheath also features a "running lock", which prevents the knife from moving while running or when the sheath is attached upside-down to a tactical vest. On the back side, in addition to the standard belt loop, there is also a lower loop for attaching to the thigh. The front of the sheath is embossed with the logo of the 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion, and the back bears the logo of the sheath manufacturer Hess Brno. The sheath, like the knife, was designed by Ing. Roman Hippík.

FALCO Series C
The FALCO knife was produced over the years in several series that differ from one another. In the photographs below you can see the FALCO Series C from 2022. This series is notable for having the logo of the SAR (Search and Rescue) unit from Vyškov on the blade along with their motto: Where others stop, we begin. Given the small number of Series C pieces produced, it is almost impossible for a collector to obtain one.
This knife was manufactured by MIKOV, because the original manufacturer Mr. Maďarič retired in 2020 and MIKOV took over the production of most military knives. The knife also differs from the original Falcos by Mr. Maďarič in the steel used — Mikov uses N690 steel for production.
