Bayonet vz.24 – Zbrojovka Brno – DOT 1943
In the photographs shown you can see a model 24 bayonet, manufactured in the Protectorate by Zbrojovka Brno in 1943. This is one of the typical examples of wartime production by the Brno arms factory for the needs of the German army under the code designation DOT.
Wartime production of bayonet vz. 24 – SG24 (t) Seitengewehr 24 tschechoslowakisch
After the German army occupied Bohemia and Moravia in 1939, the Brno arms factory did not stop and production continued for the needs of the Third Reich. The name was changed to Waffenwerke Brunn AG. In the years 1939–40, a large delivery of weapons to Romania was carried out.
Zbrojovka Brno was assigned the code designation 945; after 1941 this code was replaced by the code DOT, which appeared on bayonets from 1942 and 1943. Department 63 from the Mauser factory in Oberndorf am Neckar was transferred to Brno for German army weapons acceptance.
Differences from the standard model 24 bayonet
The bayonets did not have a barrel ring on the crossguard.
The surface of the bayonet and sheath was blued.
Bayonet numbering from 01–10,000 with a production series letter A through X below the number; in 1943 only series A, B, C were produced — which is why this bayonet is rarer than the 1942 version.
The sheath did not carry a serial number.
The year of bayonet manufacture (last two digits 42 or 43) was on the spine of the blade at the crossguard.
The year of sheath manufacture was on the rear side with the DOT designation and below it the number 42 or 43.
